(PRWEB) July 18, 2005
Washington (PRWEB) July 18, 2005 Â The Alexandria Tutoring Program is a free tutoring program on Saturdays from noon until 4 pm for students in Alexandria, Virginia and the Tri-State area.
It is run by a group of dedicated volunteers and the program will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in October 2005. The tutoring sessions are held in the Alexandria Black History MuseumÂs Reading Room. The program provides underprivileged students with free school supplies, dictionaries, backpacks and other items as needed throughout the school year. Fund raising efforts are underway for the upcoming school year. The program is sponsoring the first fund raiser of the season with an all-day shopping trip to the factory outlet stores in Reading, Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 6th. The cost of the trip is $ 35 per person.
The bus will leave the Black History Museum, 902 Wythe Street in Alexandria, Virginia at 7:00 am promptly. A continental breakfast will be provided for shoppers. They will be able to enjoy Factory Outlet Shops, such as Nautica, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, Jones of New York, Liz Claiborne, Coach, Reebok, Jewelry Stores and Vanity Fair. Shoppers will receive an outlet coupon booklet worth over $ 300 in additional savings. Clothing is Tax Free in Pennsylvania. The bus will return at 9:00 pm that evening.
Volunteers for the program consist of educators, architects, military personnel, financial managers, attorneys, Government employees, writers, medical personnel and retirees. All of the volunteers are committed to providing quality tutoring in a structured program. Volunteers may serve either full time, part time or as a floater. The Alexandria Tutoring volunteers have performed over 40,000 combined hours of volunteer service. Since the program is free to the public, many of the students return to the program for multiple years.
For tickets, more information or if you would like to volunteer as a tutor, please feel free to contact Thomas Boyd, Alexandria Tutoring Program Director, at (703) 820-0465.
