Peggy Ziglin, Colorado Regional Public Relations/Tourism Director for the Outlets of Colorado, was honored by the prestigious Shop America Alliance at its ONE Travel Conference this month with two awards.

SASI-ONE Awards recognize prominent leaders in the tourism industry for their vision and commitment to developing shopping and cultural tourism. A total of 21 SASI-ONE Awards (SASI = Shop America Salutes Innovation) for marketing excellence were presented on Tuesday, January 18, at the Awards Breakfast during the ONE Travel Conference in Pasadena, California, recognizing winners from throughout the USA, Mexico, Latin America and Korea. Peggy Ziglin walked away with not one, but two of the 21 SASI-ONE awards given.

“With Peggy’s creative leadership and marketing acumen, the Outlets of Colorado have effectively entertained, educated, and advised their customers and extended key brand messages in both traditional and new media,” says Rosemary McCormick, President of Shop America Alliance and co-producer of the ONE Travel Conference. “There is a tremendous synergy between shopping and cultural-heritage tourism today. Peggy has pulled together these elements beautifully, while engaging the hearts and minds of consumers with her winning promotions.”

Chosen by a selection committee for the vision, ingenuity and results she provides to her organization and numerous partnering Colorado destinations and attractions, Ziglin received awards for both the applications submitted for her inventive promotions: the ‘Strike A Pose Model Search’ and the ‘Fashion Ambush with a Colorado Twist’.

Strike A Pose is an amateur model search for fifteen youth ages 5 to 23, six parent prototype models, and one honorary youth American Heart Association model representative who is appointed. The competition began in 2006 and incorporates all three Outlets of Colorado Shopping Centers in Castle Rock, Loveland and Silverthorne. The models are selected annually by a contest which attracts 200‑500 contenders at each of the Outlet centers each spring. The model wins, as a part of his or her prize package, an on-location photo shoot at a chosen Colorado partner destination and is photographed at signature attractions in clothing from Outlets of Colorado retailers. From 2006 to 2010, the destination was Glenwood Springs, Colorado, and participating attractions included the Glenwood Hot Springs, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, Sunlight Mountain Resort, and more.

In 2011, the exclusive partner destination will be Colorado Springs, Colorado, and its signature attractions like Garden of the Gods, Cheyenne Mountain Resort, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Royal Gorge, Cave of the Winds and Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Photographs of the models at the destination are used in virtually all promotion of the Outlets of Colorado for one year: in brochure collateral, messaging, promotion, print advertising and dozens of media appearances. More than $ 1.1 million in media coverage for the Strike A Pose event, the Outlets and their brands, the chosen destination and the destination attractions is leveraged in extensive multi-media and editorial coverage for 12 months.

“The success of Strike A Pose and Fashion Ambush are due to a team effort from all pros I work with at the three Outlets of Colorado centers,” says Ziglin. “All of us are excited to build on these promotions in 2011. For me, the best part is mentoring the models and working with the families to see amazing transformations and enhanced confidence firsthand. It is not only fun and successful for the Outlets’ marketing program, it’s personally rewarding.”

For the Fashion Ambush, “Fashion Advisor” Peggy Ziglin narrates short produced videos, each featuring an unsuspecting and genuine volunteer whose Fashion Ambush is filmed in its entirety. Ambush subjects receive a wardrobe from the Outlets’ designer retail stores like Off 5th, Ann Taylor and CAbi, a complete expert hair style, professional makeup and fashion advice. The process is documented on film before, during and after Ambush and the resulting three minute video segment will appear on Colorado Springs’ Fox 21 KXRM network for several weeks– until the next Ambush occurs. This monthly series will provide information, entertainment, education and advice for Colorado shoppers on how best to maximize their dollars and their look, by shopping at the Outlets of Colorado in Castle Rock, Loveland and Silverthorne. It simultaneously celebrates and promotes Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region– the exclusive 2011 partner for the Fashion Ambush, as a premier tourism and travel destination.
